In 2008 and early 2009 I participated in the L’Oreal Brandstorm Competition, an the international marketing competition for college students. The objective that particular year was to create a new line of sunscreen under the VICHY Capital Soleil brand that would appeal to 13-25 year olds. The creation of this new line not only included coming up with the actual ingredients and formula of the sunscreen, but also the package design, advertising campaign, and marketing strategy.
Myself, along with two fellow classmates, Monica McGhie and Matt Miller, initially entered the competition at Brigham Young University. Our solution, Vichy Shade, won us first place. L’Oreal then flew our team to New York City, where we competed on a national level against 6 other prestigious colleges. To our excitement, we also won first place! L’Oreal then sent us to Paris, France where we competed against 40 countries. After presenting in front of the CEO and of L’Oreal and other marketing executives, we were awarded first place in not only the “Most Creative Campaign” but also “First Place Overall”!
